Meet Lori

"Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world.
Today I am wise, so I am changing myself."

In her youth, Lori was a highly decorated 3-event and Barefoot Waterskier, setting 30 American and 14 World records during her career. She owned and operated the Lori Powell School of Barefooting and trained athletes from all over the world. She retired as the 1988 Women’s Overall World Champion Barefoot Waterskier. She was honored with inductions into the American Waterski and Wake Sports Hall of Fame in 1999 and in 2023, the International Waterski and Wake Sports Hall of Fame. Lori also had an 8 year career as a Certified Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse and Charge Nurse at Northside Hospital in Atlanta. She then retired from nursing and went home full-time to raise her 3 daughters and support her husband, Tom, in building his technology sales and management career. Lori says that she married her best friend and celebrates 34 years of marriage.

Lori turned to psychedelics after a devastating family tragedy that caused the beautiful life that she had built to come crashing down around her. One moment that completely changed the course of her life. After this family trauma, she entered a very dark period in her life. Ruled by fear, she became more and more disconnected from herself and the goodness of life causing her to feel completely lost and hopeless and life to feel cruel and meaningless. The desperation to feel better and find answers for her suffering birthed a willingness to do whatever it took and look for alternative methods to heal herself. Her search led to Psychedelics(Enthiogenic Medicines) and with determination, she used these medicines for the first time, which she credits with being the single best decision of her life.

As Lori turned to these powerful enthiogenic medicines, her entire way of being in this world began to change. She diligently applied herself to the often tedious work of integrating the insights, wisdom, gifts and healing that she received from her ceremonies. Healing herself has been very challenging at times and has required a patient commitment to the process, but she is now experiencing personal freedom, peace and wholeness that she never imagined possible.
